This paid internship is open to 12th grade students and New York City residents who live in the five boroughs. This program is designed to help students explore career options in the arts and entertainment industries, including administrative and managerial positions.
To be eligible to participate in this internship, applicants must be available to attend a mandatory parent/guardian orientation on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 and a meeting with Apollo Young Producers on June 29, 2023. They must also be available to participate in a nine (9) week program from Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during after-school hours.
In the past, students who participated in this internship have gone on to pursue careers in the arts or a related field. Many of them have had the opportunity to attend The Apollo’s Amateur Night concerts, which have showcased a wide range of artists, from Ella Fitzgerald to Lauryn Hill, Machine Gun Kelly, Jazmine Sullivan and H.E.R.
This year, Amateur Night returns with a new show celebrating the diversity of Black music. In response to select readings from Amiri Baraka’s book “Blues People: Negro Music in White America,” Russell Gunn and his 27-piece Royal Krunk Jazz Orkestra will traverse through field hollers, gospel, the blues and more in seven brand new music works. This one-night-only performance is sure to be a hit with both The Apollo’s audience and the performers themselves!

Urban Park Rangers Internship

NYC Parks is the steward of more than 30,000 acres of land – 14 percent of the City – including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 67 public pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses, and 14 miles of beaches.
As an Urban Park Ranger, you’ll perform basic park patrols, enforce rules and regulations and educate visitors about the City’s parks and trails. You’ll also provide assistance and support for City departments that deal with graffiti, vandalism and other criminal activity.
You will be expected to work a flexible schedule, ensuring that you can meet all your personal and academic commitments. You will receive a stipend of $15 per hour, and in the past, some Urban Park Rangers have earned up to $21 an hour.
Your duties as an Urban Park Ranger include patrolling Fairmount Park by foot, bicycle or vehicle and observing activities in assigned stations to ensure compliance with park rules and regulations; enforcing code violations and parking violations issued by the City to vehicles parked illegally on park property; providing support and assistance to park patrons and community groups to prevent crime and improve community conditions. You will also teach and direct visitors to a wide variety of City departments, as well as human services organizations that provide support and resources for those in need.
You will need a valid driver’s license with proof of insurance and a clean driving record to be considered for this internship. In addition, you must be medically fit to perform the essential functions of the job, and where appropriate, you will be evaluated for your ability to perform these functions.
